Seasonal Espresso - Sacuanjoche - Nicaragua

This coffee gives a lovely balanced and smooth cup with notes of Honey, Apple, Vanilla and Pear. 

Sacuanjoche is the national flower of Nicaragua. It is an exotic tropical flowering tree with pinwheel-shaped flowers that grow on the frangipani tree of the Plumeria family, which is common throughout the country. Usually, the tree blooms around May, hence the name "Mayflower". There are hundreds of Plumeria varieties, but the Rubra Plumeria is the one Nicaragua selected and proudly recognizes as a national symbol.

The local name Sacuanjoche is derived from the Nahuatl language. "Xacuan" means beautiful yellow petals, and "joche" means flower. Unlike other flowers, Sacuanjoche are intensely fragrant and have different scents. For this reason, the coffees for this blend are exclusively selected by our experienced quality team, which selects only those with floral and tropical notes. As a result, these coffees are as impressive as Sancuanjoche flowers.

Sacuanjoche results from dedicated individual producers who cultivate diverse coffee varieties ideally suited to their land. However, within the Sacuanjoche blend, one particular variety takes the spotlight: Java. This exceptional variety has experienced a surge in quantity and quality in Nueva Segovia and Jinotega regions.

About 5 producers embarked on innovative cultivation of the Java variety years ago, recognizing its remarkable potential. Java requires minimal fertilizer, widely acknowledged in Central America for its superior quality and resilience to diseases like leaf rust and coffee berry disease. This tall plant, adorned with a bronze tip and large beans, displays lower to medium productivity. Nevertheless, its unique flavor profile sets it apart, owing to its genetic heritage traced back to an Ethiopian landrace.
